Skateboard design in honor of the Skatepark of Tampa’s 20th anniversary.
First off, I love doing designs on boards. Whether its a wakeboard or skateboard, they are always super fun. So when I knew I had to create a design in honor of the Skatepark of Tampa’s 20th anniversary, I was beyond pumped. When I picked up by boards, I had a few ideas. The only criteria was that we had to use the number 20 (twenty objects, or the actual number) and the Skatepark of Tampa logo had to be incorporated into the design.
How I chose to tackle it:
- 4 hands, spelling out SPoT in sign language.
4 hands x 5 digits = 20. That’s one form of twenty down.
- Hands are zombified. Clearly needed to be incorporated since the zombie apocalypse is right around the corner.
- I knew I wanted to incorporate gothic elements. Much of the design is inspired by Gothic era architecture (pointed arches, filigree, etc). I wanted to surround the main part of the design (hands and logo) with a frame that resembled gothic altarpieces and relief sculptures.
-Minimal color and focus more on detail, line, shading.
