blogLord of the Rings Portrait Commission

February 04, 2014

My first piece of 2014 was a bit of a challenge and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

The theme:  Lord of the Rings. My concept: Depict the couple as characters from the books/movies.To do that, I decided to dress them as Aragorn and Arwen. The border is influenced by elements in Lord of the Rings movies, including the ring at the bottom center and the two hobbit leaves situated in the bottom corners. The ring itself has the couples names painted on it in a type similar to that seen on the actual ring from the movie. Doors were requested for this frame, so I opted to create arched wooden doors made of reclaimed wood. These were made to resemble doors from a hobbit house and were finished off with antique brass handles. This was an extremely fun project and these were wonderful people to work with. Starting the year off right!
